Does your child have an interest in art or a talent for art?

Drawing and painting are creative activities which can provide a satisfying and enjoyable pastime for the rest of one's life and, for some, even a career. They are skills which most people can develop given some tuition, guidance and practice. Almost every child naturally tries their hand at drawing and painting, and the best time to start learning is when you are young.

John Harrison now runs a thriving Children's Art School at his Gallery in Birch.

Personal Attention in a Small Class

To ensure that every child receives personal attention, classes are limited to a maximum of six students. This does mean there is sometimes a waiting list so the sooner you put your child's name down for a place the sooner they can start.

Age Range

Students are accepted from the age of 7 up to the age of 18.
The classes for younger children are run separately from those for older students.

When are classes held ?

Classes are run at weekends during school term-times, as follows:
SATURDAYS – 10-00am and 11.15am.
SUNDAYS   – 10.15am and 11.15am.

What artists' materials are required and what do they cost ?

All materials required for the classes - paper, pencils, brushes and paints - are supplied. No additional charges are made for these. For those who wish to buy their own, John does stock a small range of artists' materials for purchase. A larger range is available from Tindalls in Trinity Street, Colchester.

My child is left-handed - is that a problem ?

Left-handed as well as right-handed students are taught. Several left-handed children have come because they found out that John is left handed.

How much do lessons cost ?

Each lesson lasts one hour and costs £6, payable in advance.

Your child's safety and security

In accordance with today's requirements for those working with young people, John has been checked by the CRB.
